Brochure Mai 40
When we think of the Second World War in the Ardennes, we mostly think of the Battle of the Bulge in 1944, and often forget the heroic deeds of the Chasseurs Ardennais in May 1940. The Vielsalm tourist office, in collaboration with the Maison du Tourisme, had the idea of creating 2 historical and tourist circuits, one on foot, the other by car, following in the footsteps of the Chasseurs Ardennais during the fighting of May 40. Vielsalm was the home of the Ardennes Chasseurs until 1994.
You'll learn that, during the battle of Chabrehez, General Rommel himself had to take command of his immobilized troops and, faced with the resistance of the Chasseurs Ardennais, exclaimed: “Es sind keine Menschen, sondern Lgrüne Wölfe” (These are not men, but green wolves).
The brochures are available in four languages. FR -NL , D -GB. The walking tour brochure costs €2 - the car brochure €3. You can buy them at the Vielsalm Tourist Office.
